Overview

Dhampus Peak also known as Thapa Peak (6,012 m), situated northeast of Dhaulagiri is the easiest peak to climb which do not require technical skill. The climbing of Dhampus Peak offers the overwhelming variations of landscapes and vegetation between Annapurna Range and Dhaulagiri Range with the view of more than 30 peaks with the close view of Tukuche Peak (6,920 m) and Dhaulagiri (8,167 m).

We start our adventure at Darbang further from Beni which is 6 hours drive from Pokhara. We follow the trail of Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek and pass through the beautiful settlements of Magar, Gurung, Thakali and different ethnic group. Trail goes along the Kaligandaki River which separates Annapurna Range and Dhaulagiri Range. During the trek, you reach the different three base camps, Italian Base Camp, Dhaulagiri Base Camp and Japanese Base Camp. From Dhaulagiri Base Camp, you see the stunning views of Dhaulagiri I to IV and icefall between Dhaulagiri Peak and Tukuche Peak. Walking up in the glacier, we cross French Pass at 5,360 m, the highest point of the trek to reach the Hidden Valley behind Dhaulagiri. At Hidden Valley, our preparation of Dhampus peak climbing starts. We climb to Dhampus High Camp where we stay overnight before we summit the peak. Next day early morning, we summit the Dhampus Peak and descend to Yak Kharka and to Jomsom.

The best season for Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek and Dhampus Peak Climbing is Spring and Autumn. During the trek and climbing, we stay at Tented Camp with kitchen group and sleep few nights above 5,000m. Another option for Dhampus Peak Climbing is other way from Marpha to Yak kharka and to Hidden Valley without doing the Dhaglagiri Circuit which saves the duration of the trip but we recommend Dhaulagiri Circuit and Dhampus Peak which takes you the wilderness of Dhaulagiri Region and gives you the experience of the hidden treasure. If you want to do Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek without Dhampus Peak Climbing, you can follow the link. Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek
