Overview

Ruby Valley Trek also called Ganesh Himal Trek is the recent addition to the trekking trails of Nepal and goes amidst Langtang National Park and Manaslu Conservation Area. Named after precious Gem Ruby, this trail has a lot to offer to the trekkers from its magical mountain views to breathtaking meadows, great landscape, sacred ponds, waterfalls, culture of different ethnic groups and high passes. Ganesh Himal is named after the elephant headed Hindu God, son of Shiva and Parbati and the Peaks Ganesh I, Ganesh II, Ganesh III and Ganesh IV stands like the crystals which forms Ganesh Himalayan Range. Ganesh I is called Yangra (7,422 m) which is the highest peak among others; 7,118 m, 7,043 m and 7,104 m respectively. 

We begin our trek to Ganesh Himal Region with 7 hours drive to Syabrubesi and follow the trail passing by beautiful villages including Ghatlang, Somdam, Tipling, Shertung, Chalis Goan and end our trek at Dhading Besi before we drive back to Kathmandu. We visit Parbati Kunda and Tatopani Hot spring while admiring the great views of Langtang Range, Manaslu Range and Ganesh Himal. The highest point of the trek is Pangsang Pass at 3,850 m.

The best season for Ruby Valley Trek is Spring and Autumn. We stay at home stays during our trek which gives another great opportunity to get interact with local people and know their culture.  We have option of staying at Tented Camp as well. 

Detail Itinerary


Once you arrive at Kathmandu International Airport, our representative will receive after you collect your baggage and visa process just outside of the main terminal building. Then, we will drive to the hotel. In the evening, we will have trek briefing and equipment check. Then, we will take you to the Nepalese restaurant to make you introduced with Nepalese culture and food habits.

Activity Duration:

This day, our city tour guide takes you for sightseeing of Kathmandu valley to see few monuments. First, we drive to Kathmandu Durbar Square and pay homage to living Goddess, Kumari and walk around the square. Then we drive to Pashupatinath Temple which is a Hindu Temple for Lord Shiva at the bank of Holy Bagmati River. Then we end our day by visiting Boudhanath Stupa which is the biggest Stupa of Asia. In the evening, you can buy or hire equipment at Thamel if you need.

After the breakfast, we will drive through highway towards the Syabrubesi which is gorge like a terrain in between two hills from where the Tamang heritage trial trek starts. After leaving Kathmandu immediately, we drive gentle uphill through the villages of/around Kakani. On our drive on clear day, we can see beautiful mountain views of Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Annapurna, Ganesh Himal and other peaks of Langtang Range ahead. After having lunch at Trishuli Bazaar, we drive uphill to Dhunche Bazaar and drive down to Syaprubeshi.

After breakfast, we start our first day trek to Bahundanda which is 2/3 hours uphill from where you can see beautiful Gojlung Tamang village and Dam side of Chilime Hydro Power. After having lunch at Gojung village, we continue to Ghatlang which was also called as Black village as roof of all houses were of black stone. Now after the earthquake in 2015, most of the houses were dragged down and replaced by zinc sheet. It is a small village on hillside of Tamang community with traditional stone houses. Parbati Kunda is another sacred place in Gatlang where pilgrimage from all around comes to worship.

We begin our trek with uphill climb to Parbati Kunda which is a famous sacred pond and devotees visit each year in Janai Purnima. Then we continue our trek along the pine and rhododendron forest and reach Yuri Kharka. From Yuri Kharka, we make our way to Khurpu Bhanjyang and descend to Somdang Valley which is an enchanting gorge with sprawling green meadows and hosts the 200 m long beautiful Chukarma waterfall. During the trek, we get the view of Langtang Range, Ganesh Hiimal and Paldor Peak.

Activity Duration:

We start little early than usual and climb Pangsang Pass along the border of Rasuwa and Dhading districts which is the highest point of our entire trek. The pass is on southwest of Somdang and offers the great broad views of surrounding terrains. From the pass, we get the panoramic views of Ganesh Himal Range, Manaslu Range, Langtang Range and a little of Annapurna Range. This area has abundant herbal plants. After spending few times, we descend to Tipling. Tipling is an old Tamang Village and dominated by Shamanism and Tantrism. It hosts two Tibetan Gompas with colorful flags and the village is influenced by both Hinduism and Buddhism.

Today we trek to sister villages of Shertung and Chalis Goan. After walking on the forest, we descend to Adha Khola. We cross Adha Khola River and ascend to reach Shertung inhabited by Tamang people. Shertung means the 'place of gold' and legend says two brothers in search of Gold were arrived here by what they saw in their dream and thus the settlement was established. This village is culturally enriched with unique customs and craftsmanship and has many dances like Shaman dance (Jhakri Dance), Ghode (Horse) dance, Ghatu dance.

Activity Duration:

We walk for around 30 minutes to Chalish Goan and make a day visit to Tatopani Hot Spring. It takes around 1 ½ Hours to get to Hot Spring through the forest along the mountain views. After spending couple of hours, we will retrace to Chalish Goan for overnight. This village is a big village of Gurung people and we spend entire half day around the village.

Today, our trail leads us to Borang village and to Percho. After having lunch at Percho, we continue to Darkha Goan. Along our way, we see many beautiful landscapes and terraces. Dharkha Goan is big village of Tamang and Brahmin.

We descend to Darkha Phedi and take our 4 WD drive back to Dhading Besi, a big town and headquarter of Dhading District. After lunch, we drive back to Kathmandu. In the evening, we host Farwell dinner to mark the success of Ruby Valley Trek.

Activity Duration:

We drive to Bhaktapur, an ancient Newari town which is also called city of living museum and city of devotees. Walk around to the big palace courtyard, Royal bath, Pottery square, Dattatraya Square and many more. In the afternoon, we drive to another square in Lalitpur, Patan Durbar Square. Patan boasts of many famous sites and unique architecture. Krishna Mandir in this Square was built to honor an incarnation of Vishnu. One of the best examples of stone architecture in the world, scenes from Mahabharat, Asia's greatest mythological war, is carved on the temple's walls. Home to traditional artists and sculptors, one can find more temples dedicated to Ganesh (the elephant-headed god), Shiva, Narsingha, Taleju, and others are located at Patan Durbar Square. Late afternoon, we drive to Swayambhunath Stupa also called Monkey Temple, a Stupa in a small hill of Kathmandu over viewing Kathmandu valley and the surrounding mountains.
