Nagarkot
is a small town 32 kms away Northeast of Kathmandu city at the elevation of
2,175 m. It is a hill station and is famous from very long time. Especially
when Ranas were ruling Kathmandu, (1,846 AD to 1,950 AD), they started visiting
Nagarkot for day trips and overnight.
Nowadays,
it becomes one of the most beautiful spots for Sunrise, Sunset and Mountain
views stretches from Mt. Everest on east to Mt. Dhaulagiri to west. In the
clear day, a dot view of Mt. Everest can be seen and nicely with binocular. The
major ranges seen from Nagarkot are Manaslu range, Ganesh Himal range, Jugal
Himal range and Rolwaling range. Annapurna range and Mahalangur range (Everest
Range) can be seen in a far distance.
Further,
it has a panoramic view of Kathmandu valley and Shivapuri National part.
Tamang
village, the lush green jungle and view of Sankhu valley on East during the
hiking trail rewards the hikers.
Schedule:
After
early breakfast, we drive to Telkot for 1 hour, a local village on the way to
Nagarkot.
We
start our hiking and hike for around 20 minutes along the steep steps to get
the Hindu temple. We spend few minutes at the temple and continue our hike. In
few places we pass through main motor way only for few minutes. During the
hike, we see mountains; pass by local villages, jungle, fields etc. If you are
lucky, you can see people preparing local alcohol (Rakshi) made of millet, rice
or maize in big pot with firewood. Upon arrival at Nagarkot town, we will have
lunch at one of the view point restaurant/hotel’s restaurant. After some rest,
we drive to Nagarkot View Point which is 20 minutes away from the town. From
the Car park, we walk for 5 minutes on steps to get to the view point.
After
spending some time, we walk down to the car and drive back to Kathmandu.
Note: You can stay overnight at Nagarkot to see Sunset and Sunrise or if you want to make trip little longer, you can visit Changunarayan Temple, temple of Lord Vishnu and hike to Telkot(1.5 Hours) and continue our Nagarkot trail. Also, you can visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square on your way back.
