Overview

Rara Lake is one of the most fascinating gem and jewels of Western Nepal of Karnali Province. It is the biggest lake of Nepal at an elevation of 2,990 m and often termed as ‘Queen of Lakes’ and attracts thousands of domestic and international visitors every year. Rara Lake lie within Rara National Park which covers 106 square km is the smallest national park of Nepal which was established to protect its unique Flora and Fauna. Just above the lake, Murma Top at the elevation of 3,690 m just provides the best view of Rara Lake, surrounding Hills, Kanjirowa Mountain Range and Mt. Saipal.

During our Rara Lake tour, we fly to Nepaljung and to Talcha Airport in Mugu which is one of the adventurous airport of Nepal. From Talcha, we have two options to reach Rara Lake, either we drive upto Milichaur in Jeep for around 45 minutes and walk for another 30 minutes to reach the lake or we hike from Talcha Airport for 3 Hours. There is option of Horse Riding to reach the lake as well. In Rara, we do boating and walk around the lake, hike to Murma Top, visit Murma Village which is a typical village of Karnali Province.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Kathmandu Arrival (1,350 m/4,430 ft)

After arriving at Kathmandu International Airport, our office representative welcomes you with Garland and takes you to hotel in Kathmandu. In the evening, we will have briefing on trek and equipment check by our Trek Manager and Trek Guide. Then, we will take you for dinner to make you introduced with Nepalese food habits and Culture.

Day 02: Visit Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa and Kathmandu Durbar Square

After breakfast, we will take you for guided tour of Kathmandu city. We will begin with Pashupatinath Temple which is famous Hindu Temple of Lord Shiva at the bank of holy Bagmati River. After this, we continue to Boudhanath Stupa, which is giant Stupa in Asia and a focal point of Tibetan Buddhism in Kathmandu. Then, we drive to Kathmandu Durbar Square where Nepalese Kings used to get Throne. Interesting places to see here are Taleju Temple, Statue of Kal Bhairabh and Hanuman, Temple of Jagannath (Erotic Temple) and Kastamandap Temple from which Kathmandu got its name. We visit Kumari Temple and pay homage to the living goddess, Kumari and also walk around the Freak streets which was famous during Hippie Era in 60's and 70's.

Day 03: Fly to Nepaljung (150 m/492 ft)-50 Minutes and Visit Bageshwori Temple

After breakfast at hotel, we drive to Domestic Airport for 50 minutes flight to Nepaljung. This is one of the biggest towns in Western Terai and business hub of the area. In Nepalgunj, we will visit Bageshwori Temple, a very famous Hindu temple of Goddess Bageshwori, Durga and also another famous temple of Lord Shiva with mustache next to her.

Day 04: Fly to Talcha Airport (2,735 m/8,973 ft) -35 Minutes and Hike to Rara Lake (2,990 m/9,810 ft) - 3 Hours

After breakfast, we drive to airport and fly to Talcha Airport. We rest for a while at Talcha. From the airport, we have options to reach the lake. Either we hike itself from the airport through Bhimsen Dhunga which takes around 2.5 hours to reach the lake shore and another 30 minutes to the lodge on the other side. Another option is we drive upto Milichaur which takes around 45 minutes in a local jeep and walk to the lake for 20 minutes. In another 30 m, we reach the lodge. This day, we walk around the lake and rest.

Day 05: Hike to Murma Top (3,690 m/12,106 ft) and Lake Exploration

Early morning, witness great Sunrise over Rara Lake which is truly a Jewell. After breakfast, we do boating at Rara Lake for around an hour. Then we walk to the Murma Top which takes around 3 hours which provides the best view of Rara Lake, surrounding Hills, Kanjirowa Mountain Range and Mt. Saipal. After spending few times, we hike down to Murma Village (1 Hour) which is one of the typical village of the region. Then we walk to the Lake.

Day 06: Trek Back to Talcha Airport (2,735 m/8,974 ft)-3 Hours

We spend time around Rara Lake till the afternoon and after lunch; we start our trek to Talcha Airport. We firstly walk at the bank of the lake on the other side and ascend through the forest. Soon after, we descend down to the Talcha Airport.

Day 07: Fly back to Nepaljung- 35 Minutes and Connect to Kathmandu- 50 Minutes

After early breakfast, we fly back to Nepaljung and connect to Kathmandu. in Kathmandu, we take this day as complete rest.

Day 08: Visit Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Patan Durbar Square and Swyombhunath Stupa

After breakfast at hotel, we drive to Bhaktapur Durbar Square for sightseeing. Bhaktapur, an ancient Newari town which is also called city of living museum and city of devotees. Walk around to the big palace courtyard, Royal bath, Pottery square, Dattatraya Square and many more. In the afternoon, drive to another square in Lalitpur, Patan Durbar Square. Patan boasts of many famous sites and unique architecture. Krishna Mandir in this Square was built to honor an incarnation of Vishnu. One of the best examples of stone architecture in the world, scenes from Mahabharat, Asia's greatest mythological war, is carved on the temple's walls. Home to traditional artists and sculptors, one can find more temples dedicated to Ganesh (the elephant-headed god), Shiva, Narsingha, Taleju, and others are located at Patan Durbar Square. Late afternoon, we drive to Swayambhunath Stupa also called Monkey Temple, a Stupa in a small hill of Kathmandu over viewing Kathmandu valley and the surrounding mountains. In the evening, we will host farewell dinner at one of the best local restaurant in Kathmandu.
