Overview
Muktinath Pilgrimage Trip is one of the lifetime trips for all Hindu and Buddhist people around the world to the Temple of Lord Vishnu. This is one of the sacred pilgrimage sites in Lower Mustang which is elevated in 3800 meters at the foot of Thorong la Pass (5,416m). To Hindus, Mukti Kshetra is a place of Moksha or Salvation. This Temple is considered as 106th temple among 108 Divya Desam (Premium Temples) considered sacred by Sri Vaishnava. They believe that bathing in the 108 taps water and dip in holy pond here guarantees salvation after death. The Hindu god, Brahma, is said to have lit the eternal flames that burn at Muktinath.
To Buddhists, Muktinath is a place where the great sage guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) came to meditate. For Tibetan Buddhist, this is very important places for Dakinis, goddesses known as Sky Dancers and one of the 24 tantric places. They believe the Idol (Murti) is a manifestation of Avalokiteshvara who symbolizes the compassion of all the Buddhas.
Shaligram, fossilized ammonites can be found around Muktinath area and upper reaches of Kali Gandaki River. Shaligram is believed to be a form of Lord Vishnu after the Brinda’s Curse as per the Hindu Mythology. Mukti Kunda in front of the main temple (Laxmi Saraswati Kunda), 108 taps, Jwala Mai temple, and giant Buddha Statue are other sacred places in this area in the temple premises.
Muktinath Trip starts with Pashupatinath Darshan and Aarti, visit to Budhanilkantha Temple, sleeping Vishnu, Boudhanath Stupa in Kathmandu. On the way to Pokhara in a halfway, we will visit famous Manakamana Devi Temple, goddess of wish fulfilling by Cable Car. From Pokhara, you will take an early morning flight to Jomsom, drive 1 hour to Rani Pauwa and walk further 20 minutes to reach finally to Muktinath Temple.
This trip is specially designed as pilgrimage trip and can be customized. You can travel around the year but the best time will be from March to May and September to November and famous festivals.
