Overview

Gosaikunda Lake and Lauribinaya Pass Trek offer the opportunity to the trekkers to rediscover the Himalayan passes, pristine valley, mountain vistas, sacred lakes and ethnic culture. The holy turquoise Gosaikunda Lake surrounded by snow capped mountains is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites for Hindus, Buddhist and Shamans. As per the Hindu Mythology, it is the abode of Lord Shiva and her wife Gauri. It is believed that when Shiva was thirst after having poison from Samundra Manthan, he extracted water with his trident and quenched his thirst. Also, Shiva’s follower’s claims the full image of Shiva can be seen in the middle of the lake.

On the way to Gosaikunda Lake (4,381 m) at Lauribinaya, the magnificent views of Langtang Range, Ganesh Himal and Manaslu Range are genuinely inspiring. Three lakes respectively Bhairabh Kunda, Sarashowti Kunda and Gosaikunda dominate the trail just before Gosaikunda.

While crossing the Lauribinaya Pass at 4,610 m above Gosaikunda Lake, you will enjoy the breathtaking views of mountains into Tibet and makes you encounter several Tamang and Hyolmo villages and their culture.

Gosaikunda Lake via Laurebinaya Pass starts from city sightseeing in Kathmandu and next day drive to Dhunche in Rasuwa. Then we follow our trail across Trishuli River which is sourced from Gosaikunda Lake. Our trail goes to Chandanbari (Shing Gompa) , Cholangpati, Lauribinaya and finally to Gosaikunda Lake. From Gosaikunda, we cross Lauribinayak Pass and trek down to valley of Rhododendron and Juniper forest. Finally our trek ends at Sundarijal and we drive 1 hour to Kathmandu.

Once you arrive at Kathmandu Airport, our representative will pick you from the airport and takes you to the hotel. Upon arriving at hotel, check-in and rest of the day is free. In the evening, we will take you to Nepalese Dinner with cultural program followed by Trek Briefing.

Activity Duration:

This day, our city tour guide takes you for sightseeing of Kathmandu valley to see few monuments. First, we drive to Kathmandu Durbar Square and pay homage to living Goddess, Kumari and walk around the square. Then we drive to Pashupatinath Temple which is a Hindu Temple for Lord Shiva at the bank of Holy Bagmati River. Then we end our day by visiting Boudhanath Stupa which is the biggest Stupa of Asia. In the evening, you can buy or hire equipment at Thamel if you need.

We start our journey early in the morning and drive from Kathmandu to Dhunche by a private 4 Wheel Drive Jeep which takes about 6 hours drive. You head north out of Kathmandu driving through scenic foothills and ridge line vistas to Dhunche. While passing along the road on the bank of Trishuli River you catch a glimpse of Ganesh Himal, terraces and green hills. As you go to Dhunche you feel as if you are heading towards deep land. Please note that the first part of your drive up to Trishuli Bazaar is quite smooth. The path then moves along the gravel road. During the rainy season, the way is sometime blocked due to landslides.

Today our trek starts along and crossing the Trishuli River which is originated from Gosaikunda Lake. Our first leg starts on flat level with some human settlements and Drinking water factory. We pass Deurali and Dhimsa and continues a long steady climb to reach Chandan Bari through Pine, Silver Oak and Rhododendron forests.

Activity Duration:

We start our trek through southern ridge and get into Cholangpati just behind the ridge. The trail from Thulo Syapru connects here. After having lunch, we continue ascent to Lauribinaya through dense forest of Rhododendron. Lauribinaya is located in the hilltop and provides magnificent views of Sunset and Sunrise over Langtang and Ganesh Himal. It is possible to continue to Gosaikunda Lake but considering High Altitude Sickness, we recommend to stay here.

Our trail steeply ascends all the way to Gosaikunda. We follow a rugged trail with dramatic views; to the west Himal Chuli (7,893 m) Manaslu Range (8,156 m), Ganesh Himal range (7,406 m), Tibetan peaks and Langtang Lirung. On a clear day, even the Annapurna range can be seen rising up behind and to the north across the valley is Langtang Lirung. We pass few huts in the high pasture of Laurebinaya, cross a small ridge and have your first views of the holy lakes. There are about a dozen lakes in the Gosainkunda Basin, the main three being Bhairabkunda, Saraswotikunda, and Gosaikunda respectively. After lunch at Gosaikunda, you can walk around the lake and go to surrounding hills.

After walking alongside the Lake and ascending up, we reach at the top of Lauribinaya Pass witnessing many lakes. Just near the pass, we visit sacred Surya Kunda. From the top, we see the amazing views of Langtang Range, Surya Peak, Dorje Lakpa, Naya Khang and other peaks in Tibet. After spending some time at the pass, we descend through open meadow area where we can see many nomadic life before we reach to Phedi. From Phedi, we continue to Ghopte. Between Phedi to Ghopte, we get opportunity to see many beautiful waterfalls.

Activity Duration:

From Ghopte, we descend for a while and the trail goes uphill to Thadepati (3,690 m). From here, the trail separates to Kutumsang and Helambu. We take trail to Kutumsang by gradual descend through forest and reach to Mangin Goth (3,220 m) passing by forest, meadows and small chortens. Our permit will be examined at the Army Post before we reach to Kutumsang.

After breakfast at Kutumsang with mountain views, we start our trek to Chisapani. We pass through some Mani walls, praying flags, chortens to get to Gulbhanjyang. After having lunch at Gulbhanjyang, we follow the ascending trail passing by few small villages of Thothudanda, Chipling and Pati Bhanjyang to reach Chisapani. Chisapani marks the border with Kathmandu and gives the sunrise views of mountains of Langtang Range.

Activity Duration:

This is the final leg of our trek. Wake up early if you do not want to miss the last hilltop view of Sunrise. After breakfast, enter to the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park and climb up to the village of Borlang Bhanjyang. Now the trail goes deep into the forest up to Mulkharkha. From Mulkharkha, we descend down all the way to Sundarijal passing by beautiful waterfalls and temples. From Sundarijal, board an awaited private vehicle and drive down to Kathmandu for around 1 hour. In the evening, we host farewell dinner to mark the success of our beautiful adventure.
