Overview

Khaptad Trek in  Far Western Region of Nepal is Off The Beaten Trek with very limited number of trekkers each year. his is the best trek for those who are looking for the experience of Pure Nature, Biodiversity, Vegetation and Real Wilderness experience. From Religious View, Khaptad is the place where renowned Spiritual  Saint ‘Khaptad Baba’ meditated for 50 years and after which this region takes its name. With very limited tourism and infrastructural development because of its remote location, this area is still untouched by any kind of development which makes Khaptad a perfect region for the trekkers seeking for a real untouched experience.

Khaptad National Park is the home for variety of landscapes, open meadows, green hills, steep slopes and streams. As it ranges from 1,400 m to 3,300 m, has lush green Sub Tropical to Sub Alpine forests. It hosts 567 Species of Flora including Rhododendron, Oak, Pine, Fir,  Hemlock, Chir Pine and many more with 23 Species of Mammals and 287 types of  Birds. With 224 kinds of Medicinal Herbs is the Living Garden of Herbs and  Natural Museum.

Barking Deer, Wild Boar, Ghoral, Leopard, Himalayan Black Bear, Wild Dog, Yellow Throated Marten, Rhesus and Langur  Monkey are the variety of Wild Animals reside in the Park.The view of Mt. Api (7,132 m) and Mt. Saipal(7,031 m), several temples and small ponds, open meadows rewards the trekkers with the breathtaking experience of the Khaptad Region.

This trek starts with a day city sightseeing in Kathmandu and fly next day 1 hour city flight to Dhangadhi with a day tour around local Tharu village of Dhangadhi as it gives the real life experience of these indigenous people. It continues with next day drive to Silgadi of Doti via Dadeldhura and trek to Jhigrana via Baglake, Bichpani and to Khaptad National Park. This trip can be extended with visit to Badhimalika Temple, Suklaphata National Park and Bardia National Park.

The best time for Khaptad Trekking is from March to May, September to November and full moon during July and August as Hindu pilgrims come to worship Lord Shiva at Khaptad Baba Ashram. There are small home stay and tea houses but the best way to experience this magnificent area is with Fully Organized Camping Trek.

Detail Itinerary


After arriving at Kathmandu International Airport, our office representative welcomes you with Garland and takes you to hotel in Kathmandu. In the evening, we will have briefing on trek and equipment check by our Trek Manager and Trek Guide. Then, we will take you for dinner to make you introduced with Nepalese food habits and Culture.

Activity Duration:

After breakfast, we will take you for guided tour of Kathmandu city. We will begin with Pashupatinath Temple which is famous Hindu Temple of Lord Shiva at the bank of holy Bagmati River. After this, we continue to Boudhanath Stupa, which is giant Stupa in Asia and a focal point of Tibetan Buddhism in Kathmandu. Then, we drive to Kathmandu Durbar Square where Nepalese Kings used to get Throne. Interesting places to see here are Taleju Temple, Statue of Kal Bhairabh and Hanuman, Temple of Jagannath (Erotic Temple) and Kastamandap Temple from which Kathmandu got its name. We visit Kumari Temple and pay homage to the living goddess, Kumari and also walk around the Freak streets which was famous during Hippie Era in 60's and 70's.

In the morning, we drive to Kathmandu Domestic Airport for 1 hour flight to Dhangadi. Dhangadhi is a small, yet bustling town in the far western region of Nepal which is district headquarter of Kailali. After lunch at hotel, we go for village tour to explore the life to Tharu people by cycles.

Activity Duration:

After breakfast at hotel, we start our drive to Dipayal Silgadi. The road goes through some of the steepest hills. We will stop at Dadelduhra to have a lunch. We will continue our drive along the Seti River. By late afternoon we will reach Silgadhi. We can visit the Saleswary temple. Our crew will be ready for the fully set up tented camp.

Activity Duration:

After breakfast at Camp, we begin our first day of trek to Jhigrana. Because of the recent development of road, we walk to the motorable road first for 4/5 hours to Baglake. We will have our lunch at Baglake and continue trek to Jingrana for more 2 hours.

Activity Duration:

Breakfast at camp and start our trek to Bichpani Camp. The first hours of trail start with Sub Tropical forest of pine and continue with Sub Alpine forest of fir, hemlock, oak and rhododendron in the higher area. This day, we will reach Bichpani for late lunch. After having lunch, we spend our night here in Bichpani Camp.

Activity Duration:

After breakfast, we continue our trek in Khaptad National Park through Sub Alpine Forest. On the way, we will be able to see the rests of snow melting into small rivers and springs. We will reach Buki Dahi in 2 hours from where the open green meadows, the jewels of National park starts. The meadows are covered with different flowers. We continue our trek through grasslands and pastures. On the way from Buki Dahi, we will pass a small temple of Sitapaila and temple of three rivers-Tribeni Temple.

We spend full day around Khaptad. After breakfast, we visit Khaptad Daha, a small lake which takes 2 hours. We get back to camp for lunch. In the late afternoon, we will visit Khaptad Baba Ashram. The name of the national park is under his name and he has been moved in 1940s to this area.

Activity Duration:

Today also, we spend full day in Khaptad. We will hike to Nagdhunga which is a view point of Mt. Api and Mt. Saipal. After lunch at Camp, we hike to Sahastralinga depending on our comfort.

After breakfast at camp, we start our trek by descending north of Bajhang. After 2 hours of beautiful walk through pastures, fields, we will get to Lokhada. We will have our lunch there and spend few times in the village. We continue our trek to Darugaun for another 3 hours.

After breakfast at camp, we continue our trek to Tamil passing by beautiful villages, fields. This is an easy day. We camp at the bank of Bheri River and spend the evening around the town.

After breakfast, we drive back to Dhangadhi on Hilly Roads. We make multiple stops for leg stretch. In Dhangadi, we will have relaxing evening at hotel.
