Day 01: Kathmandu Arrival (1,350m/4,430 ft)

Day 02: Visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple and Boudhanath Stupa

Overview

Pikey Peak is the best point to see the view of Mt. Everest and Sir Edmund Hillary claimed it to be his favorite. Pikey peak trek in the lower Everest Region offers the extensive view of Himalayan range from Kanchenjunga on the east to Annapurna on the west. It not only offers the panoramic Himalayan views but also the rich Sherpa Culture, Tibetan Buddhism, stunning terrains and rich vegetations. Being as the Off the Beaten Trek route, this trek is ideal for the real adventure seekers and also provides the best Sunrise and Sunset view over massive Himalayan range and deep green valleys. 

Pikey Peak Trek starts from sightseeing tour of Kathmandu valley and drive to Dhap Bazar which is around 7 hours 4W drive. Then we will start our trek to Jhapre passing Sigane. From Jhapre, we we will trek to Pikey Base Camp. From Base Camp, we hike on early morning to witness Sunrise over Himalayan Range and green valleys and trek down to the other side in Junbesi. In Junbesi, we will explore the village and visit the sacred Thupten Choling Gompa which was founded in the 19th century. Then we will continue our trek to Taksindu and end our trek in Phaplu. In Phaplu, we will visit Chiwong Monastery and finally drive back to Kathmandu.
The best season for Pikey Peak Trek is spring and autumn and can be trekked around the year. There are nice tiny tea houses/lodges along the trek route and can experience the local food and rich culture. 

Detail Itinerary


Once you arrive at Kathmandu International Airport, our representative from Alpine Holidays will receive you after you collect your baggage and exit the main terminal building. Then we will drive to the hotel. Check-in and rest. In the evening, our trek manager along with trek guide will brief you about the trek and check your equipment. Later on, we will take you to the Nepalese Restaurant to introduce you with Nepalese food habits and culture.

Activity Duration:

This day, our city tour guide takes you for sightseeing of Kathmandu valley to see few monuments. First, we drive to Kathmandu Durbar Square and pay homage to living Goddess, Kumari and walk around the square. Then we drive to Pashupatinath Temple which is a Hindu Temple for Lord Shiva at the bank of Holy Bagmati River. Then we end our day by visiting Boudhanath Stupa which is the biggest Stupa of Asia. In the evening, you can buy or hire equipment at Thamel if you need.

After early breakfast, we start our drive to Dhap Bazaar. We will pass beautiful town of Dhulikhel, many villages and drive along the Sunkoshi River and Tamakoshi River. Then we will drive uphill to the famous Okhaldhunga town and Dhap Bazaar is further 2 hours drive.

Activity Duration:

This day is the first day of the trek and we commence our trek to Sigane. As we approach Sigane, we will see the Himalayan peaks of Numbur Range. Then we will continue on under construction motor way for couple of hours and reach to Jhapre. Jhapre is located in a hill above deep valley and offers the view of Mt. Everest and Numbur Himal and hosts tiny Gompas and Stupas.

Activity Duration:

We will wake up early morning to see the first Sunrise of our trek over Mountain Range. After breakfast, we will climb uphill to a grassy ridge at Bhulbhule. There is small lodge with no name and offers view of Mt. Everest. After few times from Bhulbhule, we will take right trail and climb steep ascend through the rhododendron forest and village of Lhamuje. Then we will walk on the level path trail where you can see Yak Grazing. We will pass through the long Mani Wall and hit the winding trail before reaching Pikey Base Camp.

Activity Duration:

Early morning, we will hike to the Pikey Peak summit covered with prayers flag on a gradual ascending trail, takes around 2 hours. From the peak, we will see the wide mountain range from Annapurna to the west and Kanchenjunga on the east including Mt. Everest (8,848m), Number (6,959m), Thamserku (6,608m), Kangtega (6,685m), Khatang (6,853m), Kanchenjunga (8,586m), Manaslu (8,163m), Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Gaurishankar (7,134m), Dorje Lakpa (6,966m) and Langtang Mountain Range. After spending some times at the summit, we will walk on flat trail and to the steeper trail as we enter the forest to Jase Bhanjyang where we will have breakfast. After breakfast, we will descend to Loding for overnight which passes few steep sections on the forest.

Activity Duration:

We will walk uphill to the ridgeline above Loding passing by farm houses, prayers flags, grazing animals. From the ridgeline, we will see the beautiful view of back valley we trekked yesterday. In the opposite valley, we will see the Thupten Choling Gompa above Junbesi. We will arrive Junbesi for lunch. Junbesi is a Sherpa settlement with deep Sherpa culture and architect. After lunch, we head to the north to Thupten Choling Gompa which is the largest Tibetan Settlements and was established by Trulsik Rinpoche who fled from Ronbuk Monastery in Tibet during 1950s. Trulsik Rinpoche is of the high remaining lamas who was born and educated in Tibet is highly regarded to Tibetan Buddhism and of Nyingma Sect which the Gompa belongs. This monastery was built during 1960s as a Temporary Monastery until Rinpoche could return to Tibet but now reconstructed as permanent home for Nyingma Legacy and Rinpoche’s reincarnations will be on the monastery not in Tibet. There is Tibetan Medical School and hospital near the monastery. After spending some times, we will retrace to Junbesi.

Activity Duration:

This day, we will trek to the bottom of the town to cross the river and ascend to the Salung from where we see Mt. Everest, Chamlang and Makalu Mountains. From this point, we will have the view across the valley to Chiwong Monastery in Phaplu. We continue down to our trail to the stream and make a short climb to Ringmo which is famous for its Apple Orchards and its products like Apple Raksi (Alchohal), Apple Cider and Apple Pie. Then we will make a short climb to Taksindu La which offers again the beautiful mountain views and we make a short descend to Taksindu village where famous Taksindu Monastery is located which was built by Tengboche Lama in 1946.

After breakfast, we leave the main trail and trek to Phaplu through the beautiful forest trail. We may also consider visiting Chiwong Monastery perched on the hill cliff overlooking the Phaplu Valley which was built on 1923 and have a celebration of Mani Rimdu Festival in every Autumn.

After early breakfast, we will drive back to Kathmandu which takes around 9/10 hours. In Kathmandu, we will host a farewell dinner to mark the great success of Pikey Peak Trek.
