Overview

Tamang Heritage Trail Trek is one of the most fascinating popular trekking routes in Langtang Region of Nepal north of capital city, Kathmandu. This trek offers the lifestyle of Tamang Community which is highly influenced by Tibetan culture and snow capped mountains in the north. This trek is considered as one of the easiest and nearest trekking routes near Kathmandu valley which gives the opportunity to experience the great varieties of landscape with cultural, religion, economic and traditional aspect amidst Tamang community.

Tamang people are originally came from Tibet as horse traders and settled down in the northern hilly part of Kathmandu. Hence, they have great influence of Tibetan Culture. During our trek, we stay at local home stay of Tamang people which gives us insight about their lifestyle, culture and food habits. 

Tamang Heritage Trek begins with 7 hours drive from Kathmandu along with the beautiful highway crosses villages, rivers, rice fields and views of mountains. From Syabrubesi, our trek starts until we get back to Syabrubesi. Ghatlang and Briddhim Village are the great attractions of the trek among others.  During this trek, we passes through monasteries, Tamang home stay, healing bath in natural hot spring, houses with beautiful woodcarving, beautiful landscape of alpine terrain, rhododendron forests and mesmerizing view of Langtang Lirung and Ganesh Himal.

Detail Itinerary


Once you arrive at Kathmandu International Airport, our representative will receive after you collect your baggage and visa process just outside of the main terminal building. Then, we will drive to the hotel. In the evening, we will have trek briefing and equipment check. Then, we will take you to the Nepalese restaurant to make you introduced with Nepalese culture and food habits.

Activity Duration:

This day, our city tour guide takes you for sightseeing of Kathmandu valley to see few monuments. First, we drive to Kathmandu Durbar Square and pay homage to living Goddess, Kumari and walk around the square. Then we drive to Pashupatinath Temple which is a Hindu Temple for Lord Shiva at the bank of Holy Bagmati River. Then we end our day by visiting Boudhanath Stupa which is the biggest Stupa of Asia. In the evening, you can buy or hire equipment at Thamel if you need.

Activity Duration:

After the breakfast, we will drive through highway towards the Syabrubesi which is gorge like a terrain in between two hills from where the Tamang heritage trial trek starts. After leaving Kathmandu immediately, we drive gentle uphill through the villages of/around Kakani. On our drive on clear day, we can see beautiful mountain views of Mt. Manaslu, Mt. Annapurna, Ganesh Himal and other peaks of Langtang Range ahead. After having lunch at Trishuli Bazaar, we drive uphill to Dhunche Bazaar and drive down to Syaprubeshi.

Activity Duration:

After breakfast, we start our first day trek to Bahundanda which is 2/3 hours uphill from where you can see beautiful Gojlung Tamang village and Dam side of Chilime Hydro Power. After having lunch at Gojung village, we continue to Ghatlang which was also called as Black village as roof of all houses were of black stone. Now after the earthquake in 2015, most of the houses were dragged down and replaced by zinc sheet. It is a small village on hillside of tamang community with traditional stone houses. Parbati Kunda is another secret place in Gatlang where pilgrimage from all around come to worship.

Activity Duration:

After breakfast, we start our trek by descending to the village of Thangbuche. Along the way, we see the magnificent views of Ganesh Himal and Langtang Himal. We pass through the Chilime Hydropower Dam over Bhotekoshi River. After crossing the river, we ascent up to the Tatopani Village which means Hot Spring. We settle down here for overnight.

Activity Duration:

This is another blissful day of trek as we trek first to the Brimdang village passing through alpine forest. From here, Nagthali is uphill ascent which is a famous place for meditation from where we get opportunity to see beautiful mountains like Langtang, Serung and Ganesh Himal. Thuman is a beautiful Tamang village which is downhill descent from Nagthali.

Activity Duration:

From Thuman, we gently descend to Rasuwagadhi which is a historical fort ruin in the border of Tibet and Nepal. We spend few times at this border but crossing the border is prohibited. And we continue to guest house at Timure. Timure is now a commercial hub after opening of Nepal/Tibet border.

Activity Duration:

We continue our easy trek to Briddhim. Briddhim is a Tibetan Buddhist village of Tamang community. This is very famous place for home stay and we are supporting to a whole community rather than a solo tea house. We will visit Dukchu monastery at village where most of the house are made of stone and split slate.

Activity Duration:

This is our last day of beautiful trek. Our trail gently descends most of the time passing through beautiful villages, farmlands and surrounding hills. We will have lunch at Wangel village. After crossing suspension bridge over Bhotekoshi River at the bottom of the hill, we ascend for 5 minutes to the town of Syabrubeshi.

Activity Duration:

After early breakfast, we drive back to Kathmandu via same way. After freshen up at hotel, we will take you in the evening to a local restaurant for fare dinner with trek members. This is a great way to celebrate your successful trek and thank to crew member.
