Overview

Tsum Valley and Manaslu Circuit Trek takes you to the most isolated Buddhist Tsum valley and traverse to the Laryka La Pass at 5,106 m passing through Tsum and Buddhi Gandaki valley. This trek goes to the Ganesh Himal Base Camp above Lungtang Gompa and Manaslu Base Camp and cross the challenging Larkya La pass down to Marshangdhi Valley. Mt. Manaslu (8,163 m) is the eight highest mountains in the world and this trek takes us to its lap and we see the magnificent mountains like Himalchuli , Ngadi Chuli , Shringi , Langpo, Saula, Ganesh Himal, Buddha Himal and many more.

This trek is the combination of Tsum Valley Trek and Manaslu Circuit Trek which takes us to the different valleys, climatic region, hilly villages to mountain villages to the extreme north near Tibet and passes through various glaciers and Sacred Gompas like Mu Gompa and Milerapas Cave near Burgi village famous Buddhist Saint mediated.

Tusm Valley and Manaslu Trek starts with 7 hours drive to Arughat and passes through the beautiful villages of Chumling, Chhokangparo, Nile and to Mu Gumpa. We visit famous Mu Gompa, Lungdan Gompa, Rachen Gompa, Dhephu Doma Gompa and Millerpa’s cave near Burgi Village. From Lungdan Gompa, we make a day excursion to Ganesh Himal Base Camp at 4,200 m.  After Tsum valley, our trail connects to Manaslu Circuit Trail and goes all the way to origin of Budhi Gandaki River just below Larkya La Pass. Along the trail, you will witness vast changes in landscape and vegetation as it starts at 700 meters in Soti Khola to highest point of trek, Larkya La Pass at 5,106 meters.  Mixed Hindu Villages in the lower area and upper Tibetan Styled Buddhist Villages like Samdo and Sama Gaon are another wow factors to experience the great culture of Manaslu Region. Crossing of Snow Capped Larkya la Pass is challenging but the views of the spectacular mountains and glaciers down rewards the trekkers.

The best season for Manaslu and Tsum Valley trek is Autumn and Spring and the trail is more isolated and quiet than in Annapurna and Everest. There are nice tea houses along the lower part and basis on the upper section of the trek. We stay few nights at guest room at Monastery specially in the Upper Tsum Valley region.

Detail Itinerary


Upon arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, our Alpine Holidays representative will receive and welcome you. You will be transferred to hotel. After check-in, rest of the day is free and in the evening, there will be trek briefing and equipments check with our Trek Manager and trek guide. We will take you to enjoy Nepalese Dinner with Cultural program.

After breakfast at hotel, we proceed for sightseeing of Kathmandu city, includes Pashupatinath Temple, one of the holy temple for Hindus and Buddhist in the world dedicated to Lord Shiva at the bank of holy Bagmati River. Boudhanath Stupa, One of the biggest Stupas in South Asia. Later in the late afternoon, we visit Kathmandu Durbar Square and pay homage to living goddess, Kumari.

Our journey starts from scenic drive to Kathmandu Pokhara Highway for 3 hours. We will leave this highway from the middle to get to Dhading Besi which is head quarter of Dhading District. From here, Arughat is another 3 hours Off Road drive.

From Arughat, we cross suspension bridge over Budi Gandaki River and start our trek to Soti Khola. We arrive at Shati Bazaar walking on stone pave trail and crossing through fields and forests. After corssing the suspension bridge at Arkhet Khola, our trail becomes steeper to enter Budhi Gandaki Valley. We pass through waterfall and the trail descends before we arrive at Soti khola.

Our trek starts with crossing the bridge to a Sal forest and eventually climbs on a ridge above rapids of Budi Gandaki. Our trail continues with many ascends, descends and goes through narrow and rocky terrain. Passing of beautiful waterfalls and a Gurung Village of Labubesi take us to Macha Khola.

We continue our trek with narrow ups and downs and cross Tharo Khola to get Khorla Besi. Eventually we pass a hot spring at Tatopani. From here, our trail climbs another ridge and crosses Budhi Gandaki on suspension bridge. To get to Dovan which is confluence of two small rivers, we climb on a wide crafted staircase over a ridge. After several ups and downs, you get to Tharo Bhanjang. We then cross the west bank of Budi Gandaki River, ascend over a ridge to get to the village of Jagat by walking along the river and climb of the small village.

Our journey begins with ascend to Salleri and then descend to Sirdibas. After having lunch at Philim which is a large Gurung Settlement, our trail heads to north and across a forest where we get a view of narrow valley, we arrive to Chisopani.

Today our trail separates to Tsum Valley. After Ekle Bhatti, we cross the gorge with view of waterfall and enter to the forest of pine trees. Then we descend down to the trail heading to Tsum valley. We get to a small beautiful village, Lokpa after climbing through rhododendron and pine forests. Lokpa gives the beautiful view of Himalchuli and Boudha mountains. Then we descend to Lungwa khola and again climb through forest to reach Gumlung. After crossing Siyar khola, we arrive at Chumling which gives us beautiful view of Shringi Mountain. In the evening, we walk around the village and visit Old Chumling Gompa.

Today we trek to the Chokhangparo Village which gives us view of Himalchuli and Ganesh Himal. We cross the suspension bridge onto the opposite bank and admire the Ganesh Himal. We arrive at Gho Village after crossing another bridge and continue climp for around 2 hours to get to Chhokangparo.

We climb over Chokhangparo and pass Lamagaon crossing rope suspension bridge to the Rachen Gompa, which is also well known as Nunnery Gompa. After visiting Gompa, we cross a small Shaui Khola and continue walking through the well managed Lar, Phurbe and Pangdun villages. We cross old Stupa of Buddha on the way to Chulle and cross another bridge to arrive at Nile. In the evening, you can visit Chhule monastery at the top of the hill. Nile is the last village in the northern part of Upper Tsum valley.

Today, we trek to the biggest monastery of Tsum Valley, Mu Gompa with in house over 100 monks. Our trail goes on the west bank, we can enjoy sunrise if we start early. We can see yak pasture and walk through the dry Tibetan landscapes with rows of chortens and mountain vistas. Mu Gompa lies on the highest and remotest part of the Tsum Valley. We can also visit Dhephu Doma Gompa at 4,000 m.

Today, we explore whole Mu Gompa region. We can go to the pass to see the Tibetan plateau. You can consider to climb Kalung(3,820 m). There are extensive seasonal yak pastures in all directions, the Lungdang Glacier to the east and high peaks in all directions. You may consider visiting the base of Pika Himal (4,865 m).

Today, we retrace through Chulle and Phurbe on the east bank of Shiar Khola to get to the Burgi village. We climb to the Milerapa’s Cave (Piren Phu) where Buddhist Saint Milerapa meditated for several years. From the top, we see the mesmerizing views of Poshyop Glacier, Kipu and Churke Himal.

From Burgi village, we trek to another famous historic Lungdang Gompa. We walk on the south until a bridge crosses to the west bank and pass gain through Chhokang Para. Then we see a small white Gompa on the left at Gho. We descend on left passing Gompa and cross a wooden bridge over Siyar Khola. After crossing the bridge, we get to Domje. Then, we continue climbing through pine and rhododendron forest and pass mani walls and prayers flag to reach Lungtang Gompa. With in-house 40 nuns, they have Puja every evening.

Circle from the Gompa past the nuns’ housing, drop on dusty or muddy zigzags to regain the lower track and continue up valley on a rocky indistinct track through the forest. Cross the Laudang Khola to the west bank on a rickety wooden bridge and climb steeply through pristine pines and rhododendrons on a ridge. There is a hut in a Kharka about halfway up, with the track continuing behind it, then up a birch-lined dry creek bed and eventually you emerge into grassy flats behind the lateral moraine of the Toro Gompa glacier. Continue climbing past seasonal yak huts and you will find a track on the moraine wall that gives superb views of the Cirque of mountains. The camp is somewhere about here. It takes about 4hrs to reach the Ganesh Himal Base Camp (4,200m). Altitude can make this day difficult for some, but the intact forest wilderness and views make it an outstanding trip.

Activity Duration:

We retrace back to Domje and cross the Lungdang Khola and walk on the south bank of Shair Khola. We climb over some deep gorges and cross bridge to arrive at Ripchet(2,470 m). Then we descend on steep stairs to Ekle Bhatti on the river and ascend through forest to Lokpa.

We cross the suspension bridge over Budi Gandaki and enter Nyak and continue walking upjill on the George of the Budhi River to arrive at Deng. From Deng, we see the view of Shringi Himal. We walk through beautiful landscapes and cross several bridges over Budi Gandaki and arrive at Ghap.

From Ghap, we make a long climb passing through bamboo and rhododendron forest and crossing river many times. After crossing a river at narrow gorge, the trail become easier and after a final steep climb takes us to the Buddhist village of Namrung. Then we continue journey and climbs up from where we see view of Mt. Manaslu. We continue through dense forest of rhododendron, fir, oak until we get to Lihi village. We walk uphill and past the Sho village and walk on the landside area to reach the small Lho village.

Our trail goes alongside Budi Gandaki River and passes several small monasteries and Chortens. We see the beautiful massis of Manaslu and arrive at Shyala. Then we cross bridge over Numla khola wchih follows from Punggen Glacier. We descend down to the flat valley, cross a school and chortens and heads to the series of houses with front yards and arrive at Sama Goan. From Sama Goan, we see the magnificent views of Manaslu range, Naike Peak, and Larkya Peak. .

Today, we stay extra night at Sama Gaun for rest and acclimatization as we are going higher. This day, we can roam around the beautiful village of Sama Gaon, know their culture and lifestyle. Or we can go upto Manaslu Base Camp (4, 800m) from where we get wonderful view of Mt. Manaslu, Manaslu Glacier, Icefall and other neighbor peaks. There is an Old Pungyen Gompa in a small hill from where you can see glacier.

Activity Duration:

Today we walk to the village of Samdo which is famous for Yaks and pastures. Our trail descends along with the Budi Gandaki River and crosses the suspension bridge. We continue through woodland where we might see marmots in the birch and juniper bushes. Further, it climbs up to the village of Samdo and before entering the village; we pass a point from where Budi Gandaki River starts at the confluence of Larkye Khola and a river coming down from Samdo Glacier. Samdo is a village with Tibetan Refugee Camp.

We start our journey down passing by monasteries and make a final cross to a wooden bridge over Budi Gandaki River. After crossing the river, we get to Larkya Bazaar. We continue our journey by ascending to the moraines of Syacha Glacier and to a view point from where we see Larkya Glacier. We see beautiful views of snow capped mountains as we walk through Mani walls and stoned huts until we get to Dharmashala. We rest for the whole afternoon as next day we are crossing Larkya La Pass.

Activity Duration:

We start early in the morning as this is the most challenging day of our trek to cross Larkya La Pass at 5,150 m. After climbing a valley, we get excellent views of Cho Danda and Larkya Peak. We continue our trek to Larkya la Pass through moraines of the glaciers which takes around 5 hours from Dharmashala. The last section of the pass becomes steeper. From the Larkya la Pass, we get the most rewarding views of Himlung Himal (7126m), Cheo Himal (6820 m), Gyaji Kung (7030 m), Kang Guru (6981 m) and Annapurna II (7937 m). We descend down in to pasture and reach the valley of Bimtnang. From Bimthang, we see Manaslu North.

After breakfast, we trek downhill and cross a high pasture. We continue through forest of bamboo, pine and rhododendron until we get to Hampuk. We then cross bridge over Dudh Khola to a village of Gho. After further descend, we arrive at a large Gurung village of Tilije which is very famous for its Apple Brandy.

We continue our trek by climbing a small ridge and in to a village through stone paved way. After crossing Dudh Khola and ascend further up, we get to Thonje Village where we go through police check point. We continue to Dharapani (1920 m) which is a part of Annapurna Circuit Trek. We ended up with our quiet trail of Manaslu and get to the busy Annapurna Circuit trail. From here, the way goes to Manang. After crossing Karte Village, bridge over Marshyangdhi River we reach Tal where river looks like a lake. There is a beautiful waterfall going down to Marshyangdhi River.

We continue our trek to Chamche village by crossing Marshyangdhi village. We descend through forest and waterfall to get to Jagat. Further we walk downhill to get the Syange Village.

After early breakfast, we start our drive back to Kathmandu via Besisahar and get into the middle of Kathmandu-Pokhara Highway at Dumre. We then drive in highway which takes around 4 hours to get to Kathmandu. Eve: Group Farewell dinner in Kathmandu.
